Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will support our scientists in the chemistry laboratory by providing services including preparation of starting materials, maintenance of laboratory equipment and running of analytical equipment. You will also manage the health & safety aspects of the Laboratory in conjunction with the Health & Safety Officer.

As the Laboratory Technician you will be expected to communicate with all chemists to ensure equipment and chemicals are available for use as required.

Duties will include: preparation and maintenance of experimental equipment; health, safety and environmental monitoring; preparation of starting materials via chemical synthesis; stocking starting materials/raw material ordering and stock control; setting-up experiments; assisting with research; testing and analysis.

You should have at least HND level in Chemistry or equivalent scientific subject, proven synthetic chemistry experience, strong IT skills and experience of using chemical drawing packages.
You should also have excellent organisational skills and be able to change priorities at short notice and work to tight deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills are needed, enabling you to operate successfully in a multi-disciplinary/cross-functional team. You will need the ability to learn quickly and work both independently and in a team with minimum supervision.
